Option Packs

Once you have decided what baseline truck you want, you then get to decide what you want in your truck based on your budget and needs.

Ford offers two main packages for their Super Duty line of trucks.

Package 1: FX Package: This is a off road package which comes with bigger tires and a stiffer suspension.

Package 2: Tow Package: This is for those who will be towing with their trucks. It comes with all the wiring harnesses to hook up to your trailer, lager radiator on your engine so your truck doesn’t over heat while its pulling a large load, different gear ratios to help your truck get off the line quicker while pulling a load (important in city driving while pulling a load), and finally possibility for a 5th wheel application.

New this year for is the first truck to offer what’s known as a Trailer Brake Controller (TBC). This system is integrated with the anti-lock brake system and synchronizes the vehicle and trailer brakes for seamless braking while towing even the heaviest loads. It’s also factory-installed, so there are no extra holes in the dash, no clumsy boxes at your knees and no aftermarket worries.

When you purchase a trailer for be pulled behind your truck you need to go out and purchase a TBC for your truck from the aftermarket. This system is then added under your dash and can be an eyesore to your trucks look, not to mention the added holes. This system allows you the driver to control the brakes on your trailer. This is important because if you don’t hook this system up and you pull a trailer you are simply stopping that trailer with the brakes of your truck and that’s not safe. By Ford introducing this product you know has something that is integrated into your truck from the factory so there is no need to worry if it violates factor warranty restrictions.

The Super Power of the Super Duty

The 2005 Ford Super Duty truck has so many capabilities that anyone could find use for it. Weather your pulling a boat or you need something to take you off road to your favorite fishing spot, the Ford Super Duty will do it all.

Now lets talk power and the only real way to see how much power this truck has is to compare it to the much talked about Dodge Ram 2500 HEMI. When people hear the word HEMI people think power. So how does Ford compete with this powerful power plant from Dodge?

First off the Ford Super Duty for 2005 offers three different engines for their trucks; a 5.7 L V8 , a 6.8L V10 and a 6.0L Turbo Diesel V8.

The Base engine which is the 5.7L V8 has 300hp@5000rpm and 365ft-lb of torque. This engine allows you to pull anywhere from 9600lbs to 11,600lbs. (Depending on gear ratio) That would be the equivalent to 5-6 elephants.

The next engine is the 6.8L V10 which has an astonishing 362hp@4750rpm and 457ft-lb of torque. This one will pull anything from 12,000lbs to 14,700lbs (depending on gear ratio).

The final engine is Fords 6.0L Turbo Diesel. This motor has 325hp@3300rpm and 570 ft-lb of torque. Now this has less horse power than the engine before it but HP is not the reason to purchase this motor for your truck. This motor is desirable because of its towing capabilities. This engine can tow upwards of 15,000 lbs and run more efficient in the process than the other two above motors.

Now what does Dodge have to offer in this category. Well they only have two engines to pick from for their 2500 series trucks, the 5.7L V8 HEMI and the 5.9L Cummings Turbo Diesel.

The HEMI has 345hp with 375 ft-lb of torque. This is of course more than Fords 5.7L V8 motor both in hp and torque but it is still much less in both categories when compared to Fords V10 motor.

Dodges 5.9 Cummings diesel motor has 325hp and 610ft-lb of torque. This is more power than what Ford offers in its diesel motor so how can it possible be better? Well when you look at the towing numbers for Dodge they range anywhere from 12,850lbs to 13,100lbs.

Now to see these facts for yourself, take a look at Ford's website along with Dodge's website to compare the two trucks for yourself.
